Stressing the key role of diplomacy and conflict prevention to enhance sustainable peace

Maintaining high-level exchanges between Member States, regional organizations, and the UN remained a priority in 2023. 46 Fellows shared best practices in conflict analysis, negotiation, and mediation during the Fellowship Programme in Peacemaking and Preventive Diplomacy. Additionally, 43 senior and mid-level officials benefited from the Regional Training Programme focused on Conflict Prevention and Peacemaking in Africa.

Advancing peace, security and inclusivity through preparation of uniformed personnel

In Pre-Deployment Training and Advisory, we led globally in promoting peace and security, partnering with 43 countries to reach 9,982 security and defense force members. Our efforts supported the UN Uniformed Gender Parity Strategy, with 26% women and 74% men, enhancing operational effectiveness and contributing to a safer world.

Fostering youth and women’s empowerment

The Women’s Leadership for Peace Programme empowered 70 women from 25 countries in 2023, addressing underrepresentation in peace and security. Through four iterations, it built a global network of leaders focused on peace and gender equality, supporting women at all levels, from young leaders to senior women in UN peace operations.

Online master’s degrees and courses

Our Online Master's Programmes in peace and security empowered 170 participants, supporting the UN's Common Agenda and UN 2.0 vision.
