Pillar

Non-Communicable Diseases, Digital Health and Capacity Building

Our aim is to enable and assist all low-resource countries to scale-up action on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD). We do this through national capacity building, community scale-up of NCD services, affordability and accessibility of essential NCD supplies, and financing for country-level NCD programming.

Highlights

Increased resources and sustainable financing

Efforts in NCD, Digital Health, and Capacity-Building built on the progress made with The Defeat-NCD Partnership. This collaboration was further strengthened through a long-term strategic partnership agreement effective from 2023. The division successfully mobilized an initial US$ 2.5 million to launch its multi-year programme activities, covering the first five years of its work.

Joint development of training and research courses

Under a Special Purpose Grant for NCDs and Digital Health, we began developing training and research courses with India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). In collaboration with WHO and The Defeat-NCD Partnership, we support MoHFW in designing modules and training 40,000 Primary Health Care Medical Officers to enhance NCD services at the primary level.

Advocacy, coordination and strategic leadership on NCD prevention and control, data for health and sustainable development

We continued our global policy advocacy on NCD prevention and data for health, highlighted by our annual high-level session at the World Health Summit. In collaboration with the Government of India, the session focused on scaling up NCD integration in primary care. Speakers included key figures from health organizations, including WHO and PATH.
